If you don’t like gyms, I have a solution for you.
Lots of people have told me that they don’t like to work out or train at a gym for many different reasons.
One big reason is that some people do not want to be looked at in a judgmental way. Some people have told me that they do not like gyms because of the level of testosterone in the air; too many tough guys. Others have told me that some gyms are filthy and that some are very expensive. I have been told by many people, that some gyms are crowded, that they don’t know how to use the equipment, that there are too many distractions, or that it’s monotonous and boring. Those are some of the things I have heard.
So, what ever the situation may be, the solution is this:
Learn to exercise on your own or with a/or partner(s) (if you need the companionship, co-motivation, and accountability).
If you want to workout on your own, you will need a high level of self-motivation and self-accountability. Not only that, you will need to know what to do when you are not in a gym.
My suggestion is that you and your partner(s) find a trainer that can motivate and educate you on how to exercise in any environment to addresses your health and fitness goals.
Education on how to exercise and what types of exercises that can be done outside the gym, will enable you to work out and be more confident, motivated, safe, efficient, and mindful in what you are doing.
My favorite ways of working out and training others is a combination of exercise methodologies. I use MovNat and the TRX to mix my exercise regimen up and get the most out of the two disciplines.
MovNat is all the natural human movement capabilities, like crawling, walking, running, jumping, throwing, catching, climbing, lifting, carrying, balancing, swimming, striking, and grappling.
TRX is a piece of equipment that uses body weight and gravity to perform many types of resistance movements.
MovNat & TRX are highly portable and can be done anywhere. For the TRX, you need an anchor point and for MovNat, you just need your imagination and see your environment as a place to do what you can with what is available (Opportunistic training). MovNat is practical and enforces adaptive behavior to the environmental and situational contexts. You don’t have much contextual demands (environmental and /or situational) in a gym. Most gyms are sterile and have no or minimal demands on the mind and body connection; mindfulness. Watch a TV and peddle you butt off. Very little mindfulness. That’s why people get bored and often see no results.
So go out to a park and get to work! A park is free, has many environmental and situational demands, and you can get fresh, clean air with a good dose of free sun provided vitamin D. What a bargain!
As for spending some time and money to learn ways of working out or training on your own, it is well worth the investment. You may say that’s crazy, but if you are not healthy and fit, your work potential and output will be decreased significantly and so will your quaility of life because you are not investing in you (You are your best asset, invest in YOU!).
No cookie cutter exercise program, we are unique and have different exercise needs. Most gym equipment is cookie cutter by design. People are not all the same and one size does not fit all.
It is best to have a professional teach you and then go on your own, isn’t that what we do when we learn things for our jobs, so we can do them right and succeed.
If you, your family, your friends or coworkers need to improve their health and fitness and do not want to use a gym, please contact me.
I teach classes to groups or individual clients at their homes or parks and it is such a rush to see them learn how to overcome uncertainties.
